New map for free-to-play Combat Arms Europe
The free-to-play FPS Combat Arms Europe has now reached 10 million players worldwide, and 3 million gamers in Europe. So to celebrate, they’ve released a map submitted by player ‘FractalShot’ in a global community competition. The Oil Rig map sends Special Forces in to receover stolen government funds.
So not only do you need to avoid getting shot – you’ll also need to avoid falling off the offshore oil platform. Illustrator “FractalShot” seems pretty pleased with the result:
“I totally liked the idea of creating a map for one of my favorite games and as a comic artist; I spend a lot of time drawing. But after seeing all those awesome 3D maps that were submitted, I really didn’t think that I would win. So I just posted my map idea on the forum and never checked back. Watching the render video of Oil Rig only a few weeks ago, I first learned that my map is going to be included in the game. That was an absolutely awesome moment for me. To allow a player to design content for one of his favorite games is simply unbelievable. It was a lot of fun and I hope that all Combat Arms players will enjoy my map!”
Interested in trying the game? You can check it out at the Combat Arms Europe website. And you can check out a video of the Oil Rig map in our video section.

‘Call of the Dead’ Black Ops Escalation DLC Zombie Map looks awesome
We’re as critical as anyone of the shortcomings of Call of Duty Black Ops and related DLC, but you can’t deny that Treyarch do a great job of picking the right characters to include (who didn’t enjoy killing zombies as JFK?), and producing absolutely great promo videos (The Berlin Wall video is a case in point!). And they’ve done both for the new ‘Call of the Dead’ Zombie map included in the forthcoming ‘Escalation’ DLC pack.
So Call of the Dead is inspired by George Romero, the legendary horror director of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, etc, and the trailer also references the recent Grindhouse films of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. But the biggest news is the cast of playable characters. Are you ready for this?
Call of Dead lets you play as: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy!), Robert Englund (Nightmare of Elm Street), Danny Trejo (Machete and countless other Tarantino films etc), and Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, countless action films). Plus George Romero himself makes an appearance!
Apparently the plot will see them fighting Soviet zombies in a mysterious, ice-covered Syberian island. So that’ll be the Discovery map assets being reused again?
But the fun of fighting as, or alongside the likes of Buffy and Danny Trejo means that we should see more interest in this Zombie map than the previous two, and the promo video is a work of art:
There are also 9 new screenshots to accompany the video, which you can check out below. The Escalation DLC pack arrives on May 3rd for the Xbox, with PS3 and PC coming some time after
Portal: I’m here… Come and get me!!
And it’s out!!!
Yes we know it’s not an actual FPS… May be we’ll need to update our site and take into account FPP’s (first-person puzzler’s)… It’s first-person… That counts right?!
Well, it’s out and I’m sure many of you have purchased this already. If not, you are probably too busy playing Crysis. Either way, you still need to buy this!
Game of the Year?! Oh it’ll be up there most definitely!!
With Portal 2, you get reunited with an old friend in the Companion Cube, and continue trying to solve the mind bendingly delightful physics based puzzles which made Portal well loved by all you gamers out there. But there’s no point making a sequel unless you have added obstacles right?! Well, we have some tractor beams, laser redirection and paint-like gels granting special properties to objects it touches. Not only that, there’s a two player co-operative mode which may come in use if you get a little stuck.
Get your hands on Portal 2 from Steam directly, or go for the traditional methods of hard copies from Play.com, with pre-orders at GAME and GameStation due to Portal’s release date for several retailers is that of the 21st.
I’m downloading my copy now… Who’s with me?!
Let us know what you think to Portal down below.
RAGE gets Anarchy Edition
We’ve yet to cover RAGE, however we’ll get there!! And you know what? RAGE isn’t your everyday FPS. Well the iPhone version isn’t. It’s not free-roaming… It’s more on-the-rails, a bit like Time Crisis on the arcade and the PlayStations, but a little more range and flexibility when wanting to kill mutants you can’t see dead-ahead of you.
Whatever the case, RAGE is one to watch! … Along with all the other good games coming out this year!!
With at least another five months to go until it’s officially launched, Bethesda are making sure you get some bang bang for your big bucks by allowing pre-orderers the free upgrade to the recently announced Anarchy Edition.
Anarchy Edition I hear you say?! Why yes… A whole load of extras!!
Included in this edition are two new weapons; the nicely titled Fists of RAGE packing spiked knuckle dusters and a double barrel shotgun. With new weapons, come better armour, and this comes in the form of Crimson Elite. Not only does your arsenal get boosted, so does your buggy being pimped into a Rat Rod. Tasty!
And last but not least, there’s a new mission. Wasteland Sewers consists of a collection of mutant infested and abandoned tunnels for players to offload a few clips or punch the cheese out of mutants.
… The only thing is… This has only currently been penned for North America, which could possibly annoy those of you waiting for this outside the mighty US.
Rage is out in the UK on the 16th September, so why not get your pre-order in at GAME or even at GameStation.
