The first official Destiny 2 Trailer has now been revealed by Bungie. The video has obviously been timed partly to coincide with renewed interest in the final Destiny even. And to prepare players for Destiny 2, which will arrive on September 8th, 2017.
It’s also the start of the pre-order information and offers to appear. Which includes early Beta access for those who commit to Destiny 2 in advance.
Destiny 2 Trailer – ‘Rally The Troops’
So the Destiny 2 trailer immediately features Commander Zavala, Cayde-6 and Ikora Rey. Familiar names to any previous Destiny players. And following an attack on the Tower, everything has been lost or destroyed. Including the loss of your vault. So no weapons carrying over, although your character customisation will.
The groups appear to have been scattered. So while Zavala rouses his troops with an inspiring speech, we see a slightly less successful attempt by Cayde-6, who appears to be with Ikora Rey. But Cayde definitely has some pretty amusing lines. Including acknowledging the importance of loot to the Destiny franchise.
This may mean that the Titan class will start in a different location or with a different group from the Warlocks and Hunters. Or just that Zavala prefers to speak as a solo act.
Following by the attack by the Red Legion of Cabal and their commander Ghaul, we can see The Traveller is damaged. And the trailer doesn’t show any sign of any Ghosts, or the other key recurring characters from the Tower.
Bungie has revealed that to fight back, you’ll be visiting unexplored worls and ‘you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes’. So perhaps you’ll be partly finding some of the dispersed characters while you build up your character and learn new combat abilities.
Some new armour appears, including the Queen’s Guard on a couple of the Titans, a Suros shotgun, and an Omolon pulse or scout rifle. Presumably the weapons factories weren’t located in the Tower, then.
Aside from the sight of Ghaul and the new Cabal (including some weird dog/shark attack beasts), we also see more of humanity making an appearance. And Zavala jumping in to save Cayde-6 from one attack. So there may be more sense of who you are fighting for, and alongside, in the Story Missions.
The gameplay reveal will come on May 28, 2017 in a livestream, with the Beta due for the summer of 2017. And DLC has already been announced featuring Osiris and Rasputin.
Either way, Destiny 2 is starting to build the excitement, especially for the PC gamers now able to come and join the Bungie series. And if there’s more cohesive storytelling and some depth to the main cast, then that’s going to make for a much more engaging single player/story experience.
