The Star Wars Battlefront 2 official reveal trailer has been released, alongside other important news about the game. Including the release date of November 17th, 2017.
Like the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront reboot, it’s being developed by EA DICE in collaboration with Criterion Games. It’s also involving new Canadian EA developers Motive Studios.
Not to be confused with the earlier Star Wars Battlefront game from 2005, this will be the fourth major release in the series. Unlike the last game, it’s going to include a single player campaign, characters and locations from all three Star Wars movie trilogies, and classes in multiplayer. So you’ll experience the Clone Wars as clone and droid soldiers, the Galactic Civial War as a rebel or stormtrooper and the Force Awakens era with resistance and first order stormtroopers. It’s the first Star Wars game to feature a single player mode since Kinect Star Wars in 2012.
Playable heroes confimed so far include Darth Maul, Yoda, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Rey and Kylo Ren.
Star Wars Celebration 2017 played host to the initial announcements, including that the game is written by Walt Williams, whose previous work includes Spec Ops: The Line, and EA Motive Sutdios Mitch Dyer.
Motive Game Director Mark Thompson explained that the logic behind allowing you to play as an Empire soldier.
“Who are the elite soldiers on the battlefield who strike fear into the rebels? Who are the elite pilots that kids growing up [as citizens of the Empire] look up to and aspire to be?
“We settled on this idea of telling a story from the Imperial perspective. The idea of special forces soldiers gave us this chance to become a new hero.”
As the Star Wars Battlefront 2 official reveal trailer shows, the events of the game will start from the end of Return of the Jedi. You’ll mainly play as Iden Versio, an elite TIE Fighter pilot and commando. She is part of the Inferno Squad special forces group. Idean (voiced by actress Janina Gavankar) was born and raised on a planet named Vardos, new to the Star Wars universe. It’s meant to embody the structure and order of the Empire, now threatened by the Rebellion.
The Star Wars Battlefront 2 multiplayer overhaul includes a more physical presence for the hero characters, including a career-style unlock for new abilities. You’ll gain access to them by in-game actions will unlock the familiar characters, and also hero vehicles with their own unlockables.
There has been some confusion about DLC content. Originally EA DICE Creative Director was reported as saying that the game won’t have a season pass. EA has since said that they’re not confirming or denying anything regarding online services. But Dierner did also hint that’s a way that they intend to avoid fragmenting the community with premium content by allowing you to play longer and be more invested in the game in some way.
What has been confirmed is a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Deluxe Edition.
