South Korean Overwatch player Vansquad is inspiration for any of us without the time to turn Pro. In a world dominated by teenage stars playing full time, the skill of the 32-year-old isn’t just amazingly good with McCree and Widowmaker. He also works at a regular full time job and has turned down various pro teams to just play for fun.
Various Overwatch stat sites put him in the world’s top players. And just check out the reaction of the pros, including former Lunatic-Hai gamer Lee Tae Jun and RunAway gamer Kim “Haksal” Hyo Jong.
The fact that he’s older than the average famous Overwatch player is nice for us veterans. Vansquad apparently mentions in a stream that he has been playing FPS games since 1998, and was resonably well-known for his sniper skills in Quake and CS:GO. So it’s no wonder that he’s fairly handy with the likes of Widowmaker and McCree.
When it was suggested he was using an aimbot, he was invited to player 1v1 vs a selection of pro polayers by Lee Tae Jun. And look what happened…
Understandably there are lots of Vansquad videos available. Reddit user limelatte has compiled a good list with more information. Followed by the inevitable 100+ posts debating whether an aimbot is involved or not.
As an older Overwatch player than Vansquad, it’s nice to see not only that someone in their 30s can compete with the best. But he can do that around regular commitments like holding down a job. Guess that just means we need to get more practice in!
Here’s another one, to motivate ourselves to get more practice in during the evenings.
“One shot, one kill”, and “I’m the quick. You’re the dead,” indeed.
Incidentally, people have been sharing the settings he uses for the PC edition of Overwatch. So if you think it’ll help:
- Graphics: Everything on Low, 75% rendering scale
- Mouse: APCO Hacker A700
- Sensitivity: 5 in game, 800 dpi
- Zoom sensitivity: 35
