CS:GO team Immortals suffered a big loss at the DreamHack Montreal tournament on Sunday, September 10th after forfeiting one of their Grand Final matches when 3 players showed up late.
The Immortals team were due to take on North over three matches to decide who would take the $50,000 top prize. But when Lucas “Lucas1” Teles, Vito “KNG” Giuseppe and Henrique “Hen1” Teles turned up late, the first of the three deciders was given to North. And when the missing players arrived, North took the next win to take first place in the tournament.
It was North’s first victory as a team, but it’s been clouded slightly by the rumours flying around since the late attendance, with accusations the Immortals may have been out late the night before.
The Immortals players attributed their late turnout to jetlag and resting. And their coach, Rafael “Zakk” Fernandes has blamed himself for the failure to turn up on time due to illness and resting.
Either way, North took 1st and $50,000. Immortals had to settle for 2nd and $20,000. Cloud 9 and Counter Logic Gaming took $10,000 each for 3rd-4th, with Team Kinguin and Luminosity Gaming in 5th-6th ($3,000) and Gale Force Esports and compLexity Gaming rounding out 7th and 8th with $2,000.
