Details of the new Overwatch Retribution seasonal mission are now available. And the fun kicks off from April 10th until April 30th, 2018. Most of the annual events return each year in a similar format with some tweaks and improvements. But the Mission events give a chance to delve deeper into the Overwatch backstory. And as a result there are some big changes from the Uprising event which took place around the same time in 2017.
Overwatch Retribution takes place 8 years ago in game lore, which is the year before Uprising introduced the first mission for cadet Lena Oxton (Tracer). This time the focus is on the Blackwatch team led by Gabriel Reyes (Reaper), and including Genji, McCree and Moira.
Each hero is in their Blackwatch outfit, which includes existing skins for the three male characters and a fresh look for Moira including a beret. In total there will be 60 new items to collect during the 20 days, with more skins, new emotes, sprays, voice lines and highlight intros. And presumably some extra achievements similar to Uprising or Junkenstein’s Revenge.
The Overwatch Retribution Mission Story:
The Retribution event starts with the four members of the Blackwatch team infiltrating a compound in Venice, Italy to extract an Italian crime lord. But when things go wrong, the heroes have to try and escape through hostile Talon territory, which is where you get to try and save things.
Initially you’ll be limited to picking from one of the team and then being scored on how well you do and killing unique enemies. But unlike previous PvE Overwatch events, you’re facing all-new foes with new abilities capable of taking you by surprise.
More Good News For Overwatch Retribution
It’s always nice to get a new event in Overwatch. But there’s more good news. The Italian setting also reveals a new payload map named Rialto, which will be available across the game in the future.
Once you’ve completed the story event with the set team of characters, you’ll then be able to replay it with any of the existing Overwatch heroes. And you can select one of four difficulty levels.
But there’s more, as the previous Uprising event mission will also return for those who haven’t played it enough in the past. So the previous mode and skins will be available for you to also pick up. Those include the Genji and McCree Blackwatch skins, appropriately enough.
Overwatch Uprising Skins:
The previous Overwatch Uprising skins should be available at a discount compared to last year, so you can fill out the gaps in your collection. Meanwhile only Moira has had her Overwatch Retribution skin revealed, so it will be interesting to see which over heroes might get a new look for the event.
