The Overwatch Anniversary Event 2018 runs from May 22nd until June 11th to celebrate the second year since the game was originally released. And Blizzard have even more to attract new and current players than in 2017. That includes a free weekend, a new map, the usual new skins and more.
So lets try and cover off everything being included in the Overwatch Anniversary Event 2018.
Overwatch Free Weekend – May 25-28th, 2018:
During the Anniversary event, there will be a free weekend for players on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’ll include all 27 heroes, 18 maps and a variety of the normal Quick Play, Custom and Arcade modes. Plus you’ll level up, earn Loots Boxes and skins, and be able to carry them over if you go on to buy the game.
PS4 players won’t need a PS Plus account to take part, but you’ll need an Xbox Live Gold account to play, and it starts at slightly differing times around the world, from 19:00 BST on May 25th to 06:00 NZST.
New Deathmatch Map: Petra
The Overwatch Anniversary Event 2018 brings a new map for the Deathmatch mode, named Petra. It joins the existing deathmatch exclusive Chateau Guillard, and the three new maps from the 2017 Anniversary. Those maps were Black Forest, Castillo and Necropolis.

Cosmetics and Loot Boxes:
Log in to the game during the Overwatch Anniversary Event 2018, and you’ll get one Legendary Anniversary Loot Box. That guarantees one legendary-quality item. And if you buy a 50 loot box bundle, you’ll get a second Legendary box.
The event will bring 50 new cosmetics to the game. 11 of those additions will be skins, with 3 epics and 8 legendary skins appearing. Doomfist, Moira and Brigitte will definitely be getting new dance emotes. And you’ll also be able to pick up any of last year’s seasonal cosmetic content. That includes in loot boxes and purchased via the in-game currency.
Seasonal Brawls Will Return:
Enjoyed previous special seasonal event game modes? Well it sounds like they’ll all be returning, including the likes of Lucioball and Yeti Hunt. Also included will be the recent Archives missions from Uprising and Retribution. So you can go back to get achievements and trophies you’ve missed, or just revisit your favourite Overwatch seasonal brawls.
New Overwatch Legendary Edition Game:
For new players, there’s also a new version of Overwatch appearing on May 22nd, 2018. The Legendary Edition will include the normal game, plus a total of 15 Legendary, Epic and Origin skins with your purchase. Handy for new converts who want to get a headstart on unlocks.
