The latest in the Battlefield series, developed by DICE and published by EA. Due out October 25th, 2011
Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Character Classes
Four multiplayer character classes have been revealed: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon, with the loss of the Medic class from previous games.
Assault will remain the standard class for attacks, but will gain the medic tools such as med packs and defibrillators.
Engineer will remain mostly unchanged with the ability to repair vehicles and damage enemy transport with RPGs or mines.
Support: This new class will carry an LMG, but will be able to lay down a support bipod to rest the LMG on with more accurate fire. This class will be particularly interesting as suppressing fire will have a new effect on enemies as their scren will blur and their accuracy will be impacted.
Recon: The sniper class will continue to provide long distance attacks, but will gain several new exclusive gadgets.
Battlefield 3 Downloadable Content
DICE have stated that Battlefield 3 will received three times the amount of downloadable content which was made available for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. As that game featured 7 DLC packs over the course of its life, with two major expansions and five smaller offerings, taken literally that would be 21 DLC packs, unless they’re talking about the size of each update rather than the amount.
Battlefield 3: Limited Edition and Pre-Order Bonuses:
The Battlefield 3 Limited Edition version contains the ‘Back To Karkland’ expansion pack, which features four maps from Battlefield 2 updated for the Frostbite 2 game engine. If you do decide to go for the standard edition, you’ll be able to buy the DLC seperately for a quite hefty £11.99, so we’d recommend going Limited Edition from the start – which is backed up by the fact all pre-order retailers are only listing the Limited Edition at the moment.
The retailer specific pre-order bonuses are:
UK:
Amazon: The SpecActs Pack: 8 exclusive new multiplayer skins, with one for each class of both the Russian and U.S forces.
Play.com: The Dog Tag Pack: 5 unique new dog tags to choose from.
Game: The Physical Warfare Pack – three time-limited weaponry exclusives, which are the Type 88 Light Machine Gun with Bipod, the SKS Sniper Rifle Flash Suppressor, and the DOA Semi-Automatic Shotgun with armour-piercing flechette rounds.
