Turtle Beach release limited edition Modern Warfare 3 headsets

Headset specialists Turtle Beach have released a  limited edition Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 range in time for the launch of the game on November 8th, 2011.

Four versions are available, and they were developed with presets designed specifically by the audio teams at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games, so that they’re optimised for the Modern Warfare 3 experience.

The Turtle Beach Call of Duty MW3 Ear Force Charlie comes in at $129.95 and was designed for the PC, although it’s also Xbox 360 compatible. You get Dolby 5.1 surround sound, including 8 premium speakers, 4 for each ear.

The Turtle Beach Call of Duty MW3 Ear Force Foxtrot is for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and comes in at just $99.95. You still get an amplifier to boost the audio, but in this case you get stereo sound, 40mm speakers, and variable bass boost and stereo expander.

You can order the headsets now and get used to them before MW3 arrives from retailers including Amazon.

And if you haven’t pre-ordered Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 yet, there’s still time left. Choose from Amazon, Game, Play, Tesco, or Sainsbury’s. The only real saving we’ve spotted is that the Hardened Edition appears to be cheapest at Tesco at the moment for £75, £4 cheaper than most other stores.

Battlefield 3: Pre-Order Bonuses and Limited Edition Details

It’s not long now until the October 28th launch of Battlefield 3, and apparently fans have already pre-ordered ten times more copies of the game than they did for the launch of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, so it’s looking to be a pretty darn big launch. In addition to winning over 50 awards even before launch, developers DICE and publishers Electronic Arts have announced a number of bonus items and extras you can get by carefully choosing which version you fancy buying, and pre-ordering once you’ve decided.

So what’s the difference if you go for the Limited Edition? The Battlefield 3 Limited Edition includes the Back to Karkland DLC expansion pack, which includes four maps from Battlefield 2, including Strike at Karland, Gulf of Oman and the Sharqi Peninsula. If you d go for the standard edition and want to download the map pack seperately, it’ll cost you a fairly heft £11.99, so you may as well go limited from the start!

Battlefield 3 Pre-Order bonuses:

If you commit to a Battlefield 3 pre-order now, then various retailers are offering bonuses for your custom. And the split between the retailers is:

Physical Warfare Pack: Available in the UK from Game.

You’ll get three exclusive weapon bonuses unlocked for a limited time in-game, before they later become available to all players. The three goodies you’ll get access to straight away are: The Type 88 Light Machine Gun with Bipod, the SKS Sniper Rifle Flash Suppressor, and Flechette Ammo for the DAO-12 Semi-Automatic Shotgun, and the DAO itself will also be unlocked for you, giving you a healthy headstart with increased stealth from the flash suppressor, and the hefty stopping power of the armour-piercing flechette rounds. So if killing is your business, then you should probably consider pre-ordering from Game right away.

SPECACT Kit – available from Amazon UK:

You’ll be able to expand your look with a set of eight unique multiplayer skins, with one for each class in Battlefield 3, because as we all know, looking good is second only to getting the kills! So if you fancy being ‘on trend’ this season, get your pre-order in at Amazon.

Dog Tag Pack – available from Play.com:

The role of dog tags in Battlefield is your in-game signature, which get displayed when you make a kill or claim an opponent’s dog tags by sneaking up on them and stabbing. So you’ll be able to select one of five new and unique dog tags to stand out whether you’re the one claiming the kills, or being stabbded in the back. Quite a classy way to show off the fact you’ve pre-ordered from Play.com.

So what would we recommend? Well, the Limited Edition appears to be the sole version available for pre-order at the moment, and given the fact that so many people are going to have access to the extra maps, and the hefty price to download them later, it seems like a bit of a no-brainer to pick them up at launch.

As for pre-order bonuses – despite the fact that limiting game content by pre-order retailer makes us slightly uneasy as gamers, the time-exclusive option and the fact that it will give us a gameplay advantage means that we’re choosing the Physical Warfare bonus from Game over the other two. After all, nothing looks better than a high kill/death ratio, and people aren’t as likely to notice your custom skin or dog tag as much as the fact you’re taking them out with high-powered flechette rounds. Plus it’s a moral duty to encourage the use of time-limited content which is then opened up to every gamer, regardless of retailer, rather than permanent exclusives most of us will never get the chance to access. So we’re pre-ordering the Limited Edition via Game, but which version is tempting you?

Have you pre-ordered Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3?

It’s not that long until both Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are released, and we’d like to know if you’ve made the decision to pre-order either of the big FPS launches this autumn? Or are you planning to buy them, but waiting to pick them up in store?

So here’s a handy poll to vote on:

And if you haven’t already pre-ordered them, but might be tempted, here are the links you can use to find the best deals from whichever retailers you prefer:

Found a better deal somewhere else? Post it below in the comments or on our forums to help other gamers out… And if you’re tempted by some of the doubtless dubious MW3 and Battlefield 3 spam offers which will only happen more and more in the build-up to both games, then please don’t fall for them. Buy from a reputable online retailer and make sure you’re not risking your cash and chance to play the game…

Halo: Reach demo out now on Xbox Live…

No, you haven’t travelled back in time 8 months to when the full game of Halo: Reach was released in September 2010. Microsoft have copied the Modern Warfare 2 approach of putting out a demo way after the actual release of a game to rekindle interest and target those players who weren’t guaranteed release date buyers.

So you can now enjoy one mission from halfway through the single-player campaign, the Powerhouse multiplayer map, and one co-op Firefight scenario by downloading the demo, which coincides with a price cut on the digital download of the full game at £39 until May 30th, 2011. The trail is exclusive to Xbox Live Gold Members, and you can select it for download via the Xbox website.

Limited edition, 8 disc Medal of Honor Sountrack Collection

Fans of the music of the Medal of Honor series can celebrate the release of a limited edition, eight disc collection of original scores from the series, which runs to a total of ten hours of music from composers Michael Giacchino, Christopher Lennertz and Ramin Djawadai.

The collection includes a 40-page booklet with complete track information and an introudction by Steven Speilberg who originally signed up Michael Giacchino for the first Medal of Honor game. Giacchino stayed with the series for the first four titles, before Christopher Lennertz took on musical duties for Medal of Honor European Assault and Pacific Assault. When the series was rebooted with the most recent title, Ramin Djawadi created the soundtrack.

Discs 1-6 house the scores from MEDAL OF HONOR, MOH UNDERGROUND, MOH FRONTLINE, MOH ALLIED ASSAULT, MOH PACIFIC ASSAULT, MOH EUROPEAN ASSAULT, MOH RISING SUN and MOH AIRBORNE.

Disc 7 contains the score to MEDAL OF HONOR (2010) with unreleased bonus material. And Disc 8 features never-before-released BONUS tracks from MOH AIRBORNE, MOH RISING SUN and MOH EUROPEAN ASSAULT.
