Realistic military simulation Arma 3 has branched out with new science-fiction based DLC. But there’s also plenty of non-alien content including in the Arma 3 Contact Expansion, which has just been released.
Let’s tackle the space visitors first. The ‘First Contact’ singleplayer campaign places you as a NATO drone operator in the fictional Polish-speaking Eastern European country of Livonia to investigate the arrival of an alien vessel and an unknown object under the ground. As you’d expect, armed conflict is part of the challenge.

But the gameplay also involves more than shooting. You’ll be expected to study alien anomalies by operating a mini UGV with onboard sampling laser and biopsy probe. And to engage in electronic warfare with a ‘Spectrum Device’ which can gather intelligence, jam signals and transmit misinformation.
Those less interested in alien warfare will still be interested in a lot of other content coming as part of the expansion. Which includes free bonus content including 100+ new decorative props and terrain objects for in-game content creation.

In addition to the 163 square kilometer terrain of Livonia, including the militarised and partly abandoned Nadbor region, you also get the armed forces of the Livonian Defense Force, plus the Russian Spetsnaz.
Five new weapons are available, with the Promet Assault Rifle, RPK-12 Light Machine Gun, AKU-12 Carbine, Mk14 Classic Hunting Rifle, and Kozlice Shotgun. Two new vehicles will also appear, which are the ED-1 Mini UGV, and a tractor.
And then there is gear including the Spectrum Device, a radio backpack, blindfold, CBRN clothing, and an all-important tin foil hat.
For multiplayer, there are new Zeus Game Master, Combat Patrol and Warlords scenarios for the new Livonia area.
