It’s possible you may be able to enjoy head tracking support in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on the PC with new software from Vuzix Corporation.
Vuzix’ Virtual Reality Manager 4 can be downloading from the Vuzix website for free, and will be shipped with all VR compatible Vuzix Eyewear models. It allows the user community to create extensions to add 3D stereoscopic video and head tracking support to many games, including Modern Warfare, along with Direct X and Open GL applications. So rather than hoping for Infinity Ward or Vuzix to add the feature, users can create and then share their own solution to the online community. And that option is also open for other first person shooters.
“VR Manager 4 opens the door to immersive gaming in a way never before thought possible“, said Paul Travers, CEO Vuzix Corporation. “Consumers now have the power to decide what games they will play in 3D or with head-tracking and share the applications they create with the world.”
Given the frantic run-and-gun nature of Modern Warfare 3, you may want to consider some kind of neck restraint before attempting to use head tracking. There’s also the risk of developing a nervous twitch, particularly around gunfire and trash-talking teenagers, but it should still be pretty cool!
