Epic Length Cyberpunk 2077 Media Gameplay Video Made Public

September 2, 2018 By DanThornton Leave a Comment

After a lot of buzz, CD Project Red has now capitulated to the excitement after they shared a 48 minute insight into their new title at E3 and Gamescom. As a result, you can now watch the Cyberpunk 2077 media gameplay video after the developers of The Witcher decided to finally release it.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person shooter and RPG adventure, inspired by a classic tabletop game originally released at the end of the 1980s. The video game version from CD Projekt is set later than the traditional roleplaying game in the open world of Night City, California. And it will see you assume the role of the mercenary V, who can progress in the NetRunner, Techie and Solo classes, by purchasing upgrades from ‘Ripperdocs’ and dealing out physical, thermal, EMP and chemical damage.

The initial announcement of Cyberpunk 2077 was back in 2012, with a teaser trailer originally surfacing in 2013. Then things went quiet until the second trailer and this originally exclusive Cyberpunk 2077 media gameplay video appeared in 2018.

Apparently CD Projekt were reluctant to reveal the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 while it was still likely to have significant changes made to the gunplay, car physics, UI and much more. Especially when there are still animation glitches, work-in-progress facial expressions and more to go into the locations.

Watch the Cyberpunk 2077 Media Gameplay Video:

If that’s not enough Cyberpunk 2077 video action, then you can watch the official E3 2018 trailer and the original tease trailer from 2013 below:

Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer:

So we know that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The metropolis of Night City will be made up of six regions, with the corporate City Center, the immigrant area of Watson, luxurious Westbrook, suburban Heywood, the gang region of Pacifica, and the industrial Santo Domingo. Travel will be on foot, by motorcycle, or via autonomous cars.  There will also be a full day-night cycle, and the ability to buy apartments to use as your home base.

CD Projekt Red didn’t just explain their reluctance to share the in-depth Cyberpunk 2077 media gameplay video with the press. They also included a hidden final frame of text in the video. That’s something they’ve previously done in other trailers for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It was handily transcribed by Reddit user Fixer;

Sorry to have kept you waiting for this for so long!

Did you like what you saw? Because for us, the fact that we’re finally showing you Cyberpunk 2077 is HUGE. Please go to our forums, twitter, facebook, discord, and do tell what you think. Is the game world how you imagined? Do you see what we meant by “immersion” when we talked about CP2077 being an FPP RPG? How does our vision of “cyberpunk by day” make you feel? We really want to know.

Aside from that, we think we owe you a few words of explanation on why we’re showing you this gameplay now, some time after industry professionals and media saw it at E3 and gamescom.

Each time we discussed the idea of showing the game to you (and we discussed this idea a lot), we were ending up in this “we’re not 100% sure” limbo. Why? Because (for most people), when a game dev shows gameplay footage from their game, it means that this is how the game is going to look or play like. It’s not the case here. Cyberpunk 2077 is deep in development. We have a lot of design ideas, a lot of mechanics being playtested, but we don’t know what we’ll end up with at launch. This makes publishing videos like what you just saw risky –we don’t want gamers saying ‘but in that previous video that gun was shooting differently’, or ‘why did you change the interface?’. Change is inherent to game development and there’s a ton of things being modified each day. Our fear was (and kind of still is) that you’ll think what you just saw is how Cyberpunk 2077 will look like 1:1.

What gave us that extra confidence to show you a work in progress game? Good initial feedback from people who are accustomed to see games at various stages of development. What they told us (and they told us they really liked what they saw) gave us the boost we needed to show the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 to the most passionate and insightful audience –you.

So… here’s what Cyberpunk 2077 looks like today (or rather looked like when we recorded the video). We sincerely hope you liked it.

Again, thank you for your patience and all the thoughts you shared with us.

Yours,

CD PROJEKT RED

Obviously there’s a lot of anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077. Given the popularity of previous CD Projekt games and the subject matter, it’s not surprising the video reveals have wracked up tens of millions of views. As a result, retailers including Game and Amazon are already listing it for pre-order, despite the complete lack of a release date, box art or more details! Or any info on potential Cyberpunk 2077 special editions, which you’d imagine must be planned given the five-year development cycle so far.
