CoD: Black Ops – PS3 servers aren’t being shutdown

January 19, 2011 By DanThornton Leave a Comment

When tech blogger Jason Koblovsky joined a number of Playstation owners in complaining to Activision regarding the online connection problems many have been experiencing, he got a rather grumpy response from the customer service department of the publisher.

In their defence, he was offered the opportunity to return the game disc, and receive a sealed copy which could be taken back to the retailer for a refund, to swap it for another platform, or to exchange it for an Activision title of equal or lesser value. But a key passage of the response set online rumours flying as it stated:

The publishers have the right to shut down the servers for their game at any time as well which based on the number of reported posts from users may be a viable solution over the free PSN.

Which led to a lot of worried Playstation Call of Duty gamers, as the story was picked up by numerous websites as a sign the Playstation CoD:Black Ops servers could be shutdown.

We need to infiltrate the PS3 servers to keep them running!

Thankfully, you can stop worrying, as the Titan Reviews website seems to have had the first official response on the subject, which states:

Fortunately, that was just a misunderstanding and a quote from one of our representatives was taken out of context and created a lot of confusion. We can assure you that the Call of Duty: Black Ops servers are not being shut down, and this is a false alarm. We are sorry for any inconvenience or unnecessary worries this may have caused, but as of now, there are absolutely no plans for the servers to be taken down.

So breathe easy, Playstation Black Ops fans. You’ll be able to enjoy connection issues for the foreseeable future.
