While a lot of talk and plans have been made for digital downloads, Serious Sam is heading the other way with the news that a boxed retail edition will be available from March 4th for the Xbox 360.
Serious Sam HD First & Second Encounter follows Sam ‘Serious’ Stone as he battles against extraterrestrial overlord Mental, in open environments and mass groups of enemies gunning for you at any time. The HD remakes feature improved textures and character models, updated environments, and new co-op game modes, so that in addition to single-player, there’s also co-op gaming either online, networked, or in split-screen.
It’s published by Mastertronic, and Product Director Neil McKenna explained the move to a physical release:
“Serious Sam has been released on over five different formats over a 10-year period, most recently receiving a successful release via Xbox Live. We’re bringing Serious Sam back to the retail market and with recent statistics showing two out of three gamers prefer to buy discs rather than download, and with over 14million Xboxes in Europe and the UK, there’s a huge potential market out there for this title.”
