If you’ve registered on any Bethesda site, including Brink, you’ll want to change your passwords as the company has confirmed an unlawful intrusion by a hacker group over the past weekend.
The hacker group in question appears to be LulzSec who recently broke into Sony’s network, and who posted on its main Twitter account: “Bethesda, we broke into your site over two months ago. We’ve had all of your Brink users for weeks. Please fix your junk, thanks!
That appears to be the data for over 200,000 Brink gamers. “Please find enclosed everything we took, excluding one thing — 200,000+ Brink users. We actually like this company and would like for them to speed up the production of Skyrim, so we’ll give them one less thing to worry about. You’re welcome!” the group said in its official release.
The group has also targetted Nintendo, and along with Sony, British developers Codemasters have also fallen victim to hackers recently.
Besides using a unique password for any game-related profiles (We’d suggest a unique password for any website, forum etc), it looks like it might also be worth dusting off a seperate bank account or credit card for anything involving a game network at the moment!
