What’s the quickest way to prestige in Call of Duty: Black Ops? Well, I’m about to try and find out, as along with a fair number of people, I’d quite like to have reached level 15 before Modern Warfare 3 arrives, and despite lots of gamers I know deciding to just max out their current rank with perks and unlocks, I want to push on.
So far, I’ve reached 8th Prestige in about 8.5 days of play time, mainly due to the fact my friends insisted on exclusively playing Team Deathmatch, which isn’t the most rewarding gametype in terms of XP points, even if it’s the purest Call of Duty experience.
But having seen a Team Deathmatch addict reach level 15 in about 15-20 days of playing time, I don’t think I’d make it before Modern Warfare 3 even if I wanted to. So to hell with my win/loss ratio (Was around 2.00 before I changed approach), and hello to maxing the XP returns for my gametime.
So how to prestige quickly in Black Ops?
Well, in terms of XP, the objective-based gametypes are better, and Headquarters is probably best of all, so whenever there’s a group of us online, that’s where I’m heading.
If I’m playing solo, then the only logical option is Mercenary Moshpit, as Headquarters is among the mix, and you can get reasonable gains in Search and Destroy, Domination and Capture The Flag without being one of those PITAs who jump in and quit out every 2 seconds to find a Headquarters lobby about to start.
So I’m just about to start a new prestige, and let’s see how quickly it takes me – no boosting or anything outside the game will be involved. It’s all about just maxing out my playing minutes for XP in an honest fashion. I’m already mapping out my most efficient gun and perk purchases, which are likely to revolve around:
Starting weapon will be the MP5, until I unlock the Famas. Then it’s Suppressor action all the way.
For the Perks, it’s all about getting Sleight of Hand Pro, and Ghost Pro as quickly as possible. And then partnering them with Hacker, Marathon or Ninja, depending on specific load-out variations.
And in terms of equipment, I’ll be unlocking the Claymore straight away, along with Semtex grenades. The radar jammer or motion sensor will only come into action when I’m really focusing on unlocking Hacker Pro.
And finally Killstreaks – for solo play I need stuff that doesn’t require standing around like a turkey waiting for a crate to drop – Spy Plane, Counter Spy Plane and Napalm are all quick, efficient, and soon hand out bonus XP points. I can switch to Care Packages, Sam Turrets and Sentry Guns when my friends are around.
So the question is – how quickly have you managed to prestige in the past? What’s your record? And how quickly do you think I can manage it?
