And we thought Black Ops was meant to be a reference to secrecy. Activision has already confirmed that a further installment of Call of Duty would appear in 2012, but there hasn’t been a word on the title or setting for the next game. Well, until Amazon France posted, and then pulled, a product page for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
The news was reported by French site Gameblog (the link is to the English version via Google Translate). Now pre-order pages appear and disapear all the time, so we wouldn’t have thought anything important was leaked – until Activision France decided to pour fuel on things by apparently contacting Gameblog and demanding the news was removed from the site. Having highlighted at least one other French site which had published the news and then removed it, Gameblog have said they have been blacklisted from events by Activision France, won’t get review copies, and has lost any advertising.
Which has led to even more articles about the situation, although as far as we can see from the screenshots, all Amazon had revealed was that it’ll be on PS3 for a price of 69.99 Euros in France.
Admittedly, it’s not quite on a par with the Duke Nukem/Redner Group debacle back in June 2011, but it’s always fun to see attempts to get stories removed end up with failure.
On the plus side, anything that might get us closer to Black Ops and away from Modern Warfare 3 can only be a good thing. The recent Black Ops Double XP weekend reminded us how much of a less frustrating and more social experience it was, and we’d love to get all our friends back into one game for a while.
I thought COD:BO was a stinker of a game, antiquated weaponry and zombies. If the sequel is more of the same then no thanks.
All MW3 needs are some better maps (bring over MW and MW2 maps for starters), lets see what Overwatch brings!
