If you’re a member of the Electronic Arts Gun Club, a reward program with special perks and previews of games, make sure you never need to change your Xbox Live gamertag.
The Consumerist site reports that one longtime member was asked to change his gamertag due to a complaint, so added ‘The’ as a prefix and everything was fine. Well as far as Xbox Live was concerned. Unfortunately, after several weeks without any access to anything obtained or bought via EA’s Gun Club, the latest answer was to get Xbox Live to allow him to use his old gamertag again.
The only other solution would be to delete his Gun Club entry, rending any paid content useless and removing all stats for any EA game he’s played.
Obviously if you are asked to change your username by Xbox Live due to complaints you’re screwed, but it’s worth being aware of the problem in case you were thinking of changing your username by choice. Basically, the answer is – Don’t!
