Overwatch 2016 Year in Review Developer Update Video

December 23, 2016 By DanThornton Leave a Comment

It’s been a big year for Overwatch. Since launching in May, 2016, it’s survived massive pre-release hype and attention. Having been incredibly well received by both fans and critics, it’s become a top selling game and has already matched the kind of player numbers boasted by the likes of Call of Duty, hitting 20 million in October 2016.

So you probably don’t need an introduction to the likes of Lucio, Tracer, Winson, Genji and the rest of the Overwatch playable cast. Especially if you have any interest in competitive eSports, which are a core part of Overwatch and will be built on in 2017.

Blizzard Entertainment Game Director Jeff Kaplan runs through both the highlights of the last 12 months and plans for the future in this Overwatch 2016 Year in Review Developer Update Video, which is essential watching for fans.

Topics include the recently introduced characters Sombra and Ana, and the approach to tweaking both characters. Initially the duo were regarded as underpowered, but they’ve held back rebalancing Sombra too quickly, especially as Ana swung towards being too powerful for a while.

There’s good news if you want to use more emotes, voice lines and sprays in game, and there will also be improvements to spectator mode including an overhead map. Plus there will definitely continue to be a mix of special limited time events in 2017.

Finally Kaplan confirms that the Oasis Map will transfer from the Overwatch Public Test Region to the live game very soon.

So 2017 is looking pretty good for Overwatch fans.

If you haven’t already got the game, there’s good news. If Santa doesn’t deliver, Overwatch: Origins Edition is currently £29.99 in the Game.co.uk January sale for Xbox One and PS4.

Other FPS items in the Game January Sale include:

  • Battlefield 1: £44.99
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection: £9.99
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection Limited Edition: £9.99
  • Battlefield 1 Official Wired Controller for Xbox One and PC: £49.99
  • Turtle Beach XO One Headsets for Xbox One £32.99 (Which are what I currently use – they’re pretty good aside from occasionally having to turn them on a couple of times for the wireless signal to kick in)
  • Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 60P Headsets in White £29.99

And a few more games and items you might like…
