It’s not long until the November 3rd, 2017 release of the new Call of Duty WW2. And although we’re still waiting to find out whether CoD can mix serious historical topics with more lighthearted multiplayer, the new Call of Duty WWII Reassemble! Live Action Trailers do get us a bit excited.
The Call of Duty series has had a history of live action trailers since Modern Warfare. And they’re generally amusing enough. But what’s interesting about the new trailers is that they’re very focused on reigniting the passion of lapsed players.
Because whether it’s the separate UK, U.S or French version, it’s all about getting the squad back together.

Although as a British gamer, I do have to point out the American squad includes both English and Scottish accents!
And although it’s an obvious nod to various ensemble films, whether it’s Ocean’s Eleven or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, I have to admit it’s hard not to get a little bit pumped up by the trailers. Especially with Royal Blood’s ‘Figure It Out’ playing.
OK, so those of us with lapsed Call of Duty comrades are more likely to be sending around a few Facebook messages or a getting together via WhatsApp. But it’s going to be interesting to see whether it’s enough to grab players back into the series.
Especially as some of the changes to the game are going to come as a shock. For instance, changing health regeneration to requiring heals from squadmates. That’s been common in Battlefield for almost a decade, but will it transfer to the more hectic and close CoD gameplay, which tends to lead to more ‘individualistic’ players. Ditto for ammo.
And then there’s the new social Headquarters space. It may be great, or it may feel like Activision has lifted the Tower from Destiny and plonked it into World War 2.
Still, it’s not long until November 3rd, 2017, when we’ll all get to experience Call of Duty WWII for ourselves. Assuming we can get the FPSP clan back together in time, anyway….
