Well, that didn’t take long. Just days after the potential of Rage 2 was leaked, Bethesda has released a Rage 2 Announce Trailer to confirm it’s coming. And apparently a full gameplay video is coming within the next 24 hours.
Obviously we don’t know a lot of the details yet. But the announcement trailer certainly makes Rage 2 seem a little more light-hearted than the original. We do know that apparently the game has not been developed by id software, who created the original game. Instead, the last game overseen by John Carmack has been handed over the Avalanche Studios.
Originally founded and based in Sweden, Avalanche has worked on a number of titles including the Just Cause series, Max Max, and The Hunter hunting simulation. Which may explain the lighter tone, given the Just Cause games mix action with a fairly madcap approach.
Avalanche was founded with a focus to create the best possible open world sandbox games. They should be able to deliver on the vehicular combat, judging by their work on Max Max. But it’s interesting their licensed game based around Max Rockatansky received mixed reviews for the quest design and story – similar to the same flaws which were apparent in the original Rage title.
If Avalanche have continued the great feeling of the weapons and combat from Rage, added better car battles, and someone has improved the storyline, then Rage 2 should be pretty good.
