Back in May, Blizzard launched an Overwatch campaign to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. And the Pink Mercy campaign has raised more than $12.7 million. That includes money raised with the limited edition Pink Mercy hero skin in-game, and T-shirts available through the Blizzard store designed by community artist VickiSigh. That’s not including $130,000 donated seperately during a calendar of 14 Overwatch Twitch streams.
The campaign is the largest donation by a corporate partner in a single year to the BCRF. And that’s in 25 years of the charity. Which is a pretty amazing sign of how great the Overwatch community can be.
And Blizzard has released a short video to say ‘Thank you, heroes!’
In addition to the official goodies, there was also a range of fan art and cosplay produced during the campaign to raise funds and awareness.
So if you donated, purchased the skin or a shirt, or raised awareness of the campaign, give yourself a pat on the back. And share the news with anyone who questions the value of the gaming community!
