Tannenberg was released for the PC in February 2019 by M2H and Blackmill Games. It’s a standalone expansion and follow-up to their earlier squad-based WW1 FPS Verdun, which concentrated on the Western Front, and also became available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The free Latvian Expansion for Tannenberg includes the Latvian Rifelmen, who are a support squad primarily equipped with Japanese import rifles and older Winchesters. Known for their composure under fire, their NCO ability can remove weapon sway at key moments to allow for skilled marksmen to take advantage. They also carry grenades, and a few squad members get the US M1911 pistol.

Historically the units were created in 1915 as the Germans advanced, with three battalions formed due to the high numbers of volunteers.

New weapons for Tannenberg with this release include the Japanese Arisaka Type 38 and Colt 1911 pistols. Russian squads can now get the Vetterli M1870/87. And two special gas grenades have now been added with the Russians getting chemical gas, while the Germans get the Type N Nebelbombe smoke grenades.

Finally, the free Latvian Expansion for Tannenberg also brings a new Baltic map with wooden forifications built on and around lakes and swamps. And the area is also surrounded by sand dunes and pine forests

Lead Developer Jos Hoebe said: ‘Creating a map for the Baltic regions was especially interesting due to the swampy terrain, which isn’t something we’ve represented in the WW1 Game Series so far – the Flanders map in our earlier game Verdun probably comes closest. Combining the different landscapes found in the Baltic region into a single map was challenging, but we’re very happy with the result, bringing a novel battlefield to the game.’

To celebrate the release, there are discounts on Steam, with Tannenberg 50% off until July 31st, 2019. Verdun is currently 50% off on the Xbox Live store, or £15.99 on the PlayStation Store.
