You have to respect the artistic effort and skill of the Blizzard Entertainment team responsible for Overwatch. Even if you prefer your FPS action more gritty and realistic, you can’t deny the work that’s gone into every aspect of the game. And that extends to comics, cinematic videos, and now even an awesome ‘ Trace and Bake ‘ Overwatch official stop-motion video.
The two-minute clip took weeks to produce, and it’s a celebration of two years of the game. As you’d imagine from the title, it features Tracer alongside Reaper. And even as someone who generally hates playing against Tracer mains, I have to admit it’s pretty cute.
There’s also a great ‘behind the scenes’ video explaining how much time and effort went into the video. The interest in stop motion from one of the animator team led to a small group of five creating everything. And the main husband and wife team converting their home into a studio for around 12 weeks to produce the two minute feature. Which included a replica gaming room, and a fake kitchen area.
Possibly the most amazing elements are the way that Tracer’s Blink and Reapers Wraith Form appear in the video.
Oh, to be that talented. Hopefully we’ll see more stop motion creations in the future alongside the computer-generated cinematics. Although it’s been a good six months since we saw Reinhardt featured in ‘Honor and Glory‘, so we must be due another film fairly soon.
Either way, enjoy Trace and Bake, and the look behind the scenes before diving into the new Anniversary Event and the new Petra Deathmatch map.
Or start saving to build up your collection of Overwatch figures and collectables to start creating your own videos! If you do film something, make sure you drop us a link or a clip and we’ll try to feature them.
