Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo now on PC (Update)

March 2, 2011 By Kalps Mistry Leave a Comment

Oh it’s about time!!

Now you PC gamers can all test your current computer hardware to see if Crysis 2, yes we know it’s a multiplayer demo, can possibly run smoothly and cause your eyes to melt with stunning visuals to die for. This is the first taste PC gamers will get of the new and improved CryEngine 3, and from what we’ve all seen and heard already, it will blow your mind!

As for the demo itself, not much differs to the previously released version for the 360. The only difference is the inclusion of one new and more open map, called Pier 17. The other is Skyline. Multiplayer game modes are completely the same with the bog standard team deathmatch, a.k.a. Team Instant Action, and the king of the hill style Crash Site where you fight for control of alien drop pods.

The other similarity with the 360 version is the size of the demo, coming in at 1.6GB.

If you are contemplating, like me, to download and test the demo, please do leave your thoughts below and what your gaming rig currently consists of… Also mention possible upgrades to get the most from this beastly game, if you’re in need of them.

Update
So many lobbies connected to, so many gamers waiting to play, so many people unable to create accounts… Just so many problems altogether.

The release of this PC multiplayer demo has left many feeling disappointed due to the lack of server hosting support and from being unable to create an account.

Once an account has been created, the fun doesn’t start there. In fact, for me, the fun never even got going. I had been in seven different lobbies, waited over 20 minutes in one, and I’ve yet to get into one game.

There is no ‘Ready’ checkbox nor a countdown timer. There just seems to be a whole lot of impatient gamers, waiting and seeing nothing. Just text from other gamers requesting the game to start.

Electronic Arts did however, post a blog here stating some PC demo related issues, mainly saying the “demo has been overwhelmingly popular, this has both an upside and downside.” All good reading up until they mention their backend servers were tweaked to balance the load better; therefore implying approximately six hours of trying to create accounts or get a game in, would have been experienced by many.

I have yet to try and connect to a server again, but now it’s time for some food.

Let us know how you got on with this PC demo below in the comments section or go over to our forum and get chatting.
